 Bungamati /
Khokana.
Situated beyond the southern belt of Ring Road, inside the valley, Bungamati
is a small Newari village still abiding its traditions as their significant
part of life. Very less influenced by the modern city just a few kilometers
far from the village, Bungamati and Khokana exemplify true beauty of the still living
age old culture and civilization. From Kirtipur you may reach Bungamati by a
wonderful walk through the rice plains along the Bagmati River within less
than 2 hours approx. On your way you will pass the village of Khokana where
you will walk through the local
Newari people busy working either on wool spinning, weaving or ardently
harvesting rice or mustard seeds, depending on the season. Though, small in size,
more than 100 people
from the villages earn their living through wood carving.
The village of Bungamati was
earlier, the origin of the procession of the chariot of Machindranath, one of the most important festival of the Newari community.

 Dakshinkali. The
temple of Dakshinkali is dedicated to one of the most important Hindu
Goddess Kali and is one of the most popular places of worship in Kathmandu.
Located 22 km from the city centre on the southern rim of the Valley past
Pharping village, the shrine is especially crowded on Tuesdays and Saturdays
when animal sacrifices are offered to the deity. |
